The Afghan government and the Taliban are holding a second day of peace negotiations in the Qatari capital, Doha. One of many issues high on the agenda of Sunday’s talks is to find a way to establish a lasting ceasefire. The issue also took center stage on the first day of talks where Abdullah Abdullah, who is leading the government delegation, underlined the need for lasting peace in the country. He urged the group to support a deal that protects the interest of all Afghans. The long-awaited peace negotiations were due to start after a US-Taliban deal in February. However, disagreements over a controversial prisoner swap, stalled the talks. The Afghan government has released 400 Taliban prisoners, so far, to help end the stalemate.
