The United States is ending its defense exports to Hong Kong and suspending its regulations giving preferential trade treatments to the territory.

U-S secretary of state, Mike Pompeo announced that Washington is forced to end its defense exports to protect the country’s national security. Pompeo claimed that China’s decision to end Hong Kong’s freedoms has forced the Trump administration to re-evaluate its policies toward the territory. The secretary of state added that the U-S can no longer distinguish between the export of controlled items to Hong Kong or to Mainland China. Meanwhile, the U-S secretary of commerce announced the suspension of Hong Kong’s preferential treatment and added Washington is also considering eliminating the agreement.
