Iran's president calls on IAEA not to give in to U.S., Israeli pressure

Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani has urged the International Atomic Energy Agency not to be affected by pressure from the US and Israel, and maintain its independence.

Rouhani said Iran has always cooperated with the IAEA and provided the agency’s inspectors with access to its nuclear sites. But, he added, the agency has recently deviated from its legal path, under pressure from the US and Israel. Rouhani was referring to a recent IAEA resolution that criticized Iran for failing to provide access to two sites. He also slammed the European signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal for failing to live up to their commitments. The Iranian president was speaking at a cabinet meeting. He also described as empty rhetoric the US claim that it’s ready for talks with Iran.
