US to end sanction waivers for nations in Iran nuclear deal

The United States has decided to scrap sanctions waivers allowing Russian, Chinese and European firms to continue work at certain Iranian nuclear sites.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the move applies to Iran's Arak heavy water research reactor. He added that the decision also halts the provision of enriched uranium for Tehran Research Reactor. Pompeo also announced Washington’s decision to impose sanctions on two Iranian nuclear officials. The moves are part of Washington’s maximum pressure campaign against Tehran since President Donald Trump pulled his country out of Iran’s nuclear deal in May 20-18. Iran has frequently condemned U-S unilateral sanctions, describing them as inhumane and illegal.
